10 Year Challenge

First off, Happy New Year! Its been a while since the last published blog post, I’ve been a busy butterfly behind the scenes. I hope everyone has a fantastic 2019 full of laughter, love and happiness. I pray that the rough bits, because the reality is there will be rough parts of the year, are not too hard on us, and we manage to evolve and grow through them.

So with growth in mind, anyone who’s not been living under a rock these past few days, will have seen the endless #10YearChallenge / #HowHaveYouAgedChallenge taking over social media. For those that have no clue what I’m talking about, its where we’re supposed to put a picture of ourselves from at least 10 years ago alongside a current picture of ourselves in order to show how well (or badly, lol) we’ve aged. So basically showing what the last 10 years has done to our physical appearance.

Beyond the superficial physical, what about our general growth and wellbeing? What have we learnt and achieved in the last 10 years? How have we grown? What have we accomplished? How have we developed? The quote by Muhammad Ali says “A man (person) who views the world at 50 the same way they did at 20, has wasted 30 years of their life.” If your life is in the same exact spot that it was in 10 years ago, then you’ve wasted 10 years of your life. Growth isn’t always material things, sometimes it’s an emotional growth. You may living in the same house & driving the same car & in the same job, earning the same money, but you’re a more understanding & forgiving person than you were 10 years ago. Maybe you don’t lose your temper as quickly as you used to. Maybe you save more money and spend less. Maybe you value yourself more and have realised your self-worth. Maybe you’ve recognised the importance of family and spend more time with your loved ones. Maybe you live a healthier lifestyle. Whatever the case may be, just know that growth is not always physical, but that some sort of growth should always be present in our lives.

Growth is very rarely a comfortable thing. It often means some self-reflection and / or sacrifice of some sort, but it is always worth it. Struggle is actually an important part of the growth experience. It is through tough moments that we get stronger and grow.

We should all be striving to do better, become better people. Let’s grow & aim to be the best versions of ourselves we can be.

Xx
